VFD Down · Replacement Backordered

VFD Failed and the New One Is on Backorder?

When a VFD fails and the replacement is on backorder, component-level repair of your existing drive is the fastest way to restore production — it skips the supply chain entirely. Flexa Systems offers free diagnostics, a 5–7 day standard turnaround (rush available), a 24-month warranty, and nationwide mail-in service.

A backorder doesn't have to mean weeks of downtime

New variable frequency drives routinely carry lead times of 8–12 weeks or more when supply chains are tight. For a production line that's down, that's an unacceptable wait. The faster path is almost always to repair the drive you already have: the failure is usually a handful of components — bad IGBTs, blown DC-bus capacitors, a failed gate-driver board, or a control card fault — not the entire unit.

Component-level repair restores your existing drive to working condition, sidestepping the OEM backorder completely. Most VFD faults are repairable in 5–7 business days, with rush service available for production-down emergencies. Every repair is covered by a 24-month warranty — double the typical OEM term.

How to minimize VFD downtime during a backorder

  1. Confirm the fault — don't assume the whole drive is dead

A tripped drive or a blank display rarely means the unit is scrap. Note the exact behavior (won't power up, trips on fault, output imbalance) so the failure can be isolated to a repairable subsystem rather than written off.

  2. Record the model number and any fault codes

Pull the model and serial from the nameplate and write down any fault codes on the display. This lets the repair team scope the job and quote accurately before the unit even ships.

  3. Mail it in for free diagnostics

Ship the drive to our Lewisville, TX facility (UPS/FedEx Ground is fine nationwide). Within 24–48 hours of receipt you get a free written diagnostic and a firm repair quote — no-fix, no-charge.

  4. Approve the repair — standard 5–7 days or rush

Once you approve the quote, component-level repair completes in 5–7 business days. For a line that's down, rush service compresses that further — call to confirm rush availability before shipping.

  5. Reinstall with a 24-month warranty

The repaired drive is fully load-tested and returned ready to install, backed by a 24-month warranty on the repaired fault. Your line is back up without waiting out the backorder.

Frequently asked questions

How long does VFD repair take?

Most VFD repairs complete in 5–7 business days after we receive the unit, including a free diagnostic within 24–48 hours of receipt. Rush service is available for production-down situations — call (254) 254-0005 to confirm rush availability before shipping.

Is a repaired VFD as reliable as a new one?

Yes. We replace failed components with new OEM-grade parts and fully load-test the drive before return. Every repair is backed by a 24-month warranty — twice the typical 12-month OEM term — so a repaired drive is often a lower-risk option than waiting on a backordered replacement.

What if my VFD model is obsolete or discontinued?

Obsolete drives are exactly where repair wins. When a model is discontinued there may be no replacement to buy at all, but the existing unit can still be repaired at the component level — keeping a legacy line running without a costly control-system retrofit.

Which VFD brands do you repair?

Every major brand: Allen-Bradley PowerFlex (4, 40, 400, 525, 700, 753, 755), Siemens SINAMICS (G120, S120, V20), ABB ACS (ACS355, ACS550, ACS800, ACS880), Yaskawa (A1000, V1000, GA700), Danfoss VLT, Lenze, Mitsubishi, Schneider Altivar, KEB, WEG, Toshiba and Fuji Electric.
